Cheyenne McKinley scored all 13 of her points in the first quarter to lead Southwestern to a 54-25 basketball rout of Carroll County Tuesday in Carrollton.

The Lady Rebels (2-6) woke up from their long trip by blitzing the Panthers in the opening period. McKinley jump-started the run with three 3-pointers and Southwestern led 20-2 after eight minutes.

The Rebels kept the pressure on in the second period and led 35-10 at halftime. The lead reached 35 points early in the third quarter to trigger Kentucky's new mercy rule which states there will be a running clock when the lead reaches that point.

"It was the kind of game I was worried about. It was a rainy night, a long drive and the girls slept nearly the entire way," Southwestern coach Kenny Garrett said. "I woke them up about when we got to Markland Dam and they came out with a lot of excitement. They played well."

All of McKinley's points came in the first quarter but it was still enough to garner game-high honors. Morgan Mahoney added 12 points as eight different players scored for Southwestern in the game.

Seven players scored for Carroll (0-3) but none had the output of the Rebels' top two scorers. Lauren Moore led the Panthers with 10 points.

"This was a good game for us. Everybody got to play a lot of minutes and we needed that," Garrett said.

Southwestern hosts Class A No. 11 New Washington Thursday. Carroll visits Owen County Friday.
