The 2020 Madison Courier Firecracker 10K Run/Walk has been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual race has traditionally been run on Fourth of July weekend, in conjunction with the Madison Regatta. The Regatta has also been canceled for this year.

“When the Madison Regatta and Roostertail Music Festivals elected to cancel their 2020 events due to COVID-19 concerns, it made sense to cancel the Courier 10K Run/Walk for the same reasons. The safety of our participants and our volunteers has always been a top consideration in holding the event and this year even more so,” the Madison Courier said in a statement. “We know this leaves a big hole on Independence Day for our longtime patrons but we wanted to make the decision prior to the opening of preregistration and to allow patrons to make other plans for Fourth of July Weekend.”

The race is expected be run as scheduled on Saturday, July 3, 2021.

“We look forward to the time when boat races and music festivals and events like the 10K can once again be enjoyed by our community and its guests,” the Courier said.
