Madison’s Daunte O’Banion placed fourth in the 400-meter dash at the Midwest Meet of Champions at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan on Saturday.

O’Banion, who recently graduated from Madison, earned Indiana All-Star status after finishing fifth in the IHSAA State Finals last week at Indiana University, posted a time of 49.98, which was nearly half a second off of his school record.

Justin Kudera of Yale (Mich.) won the race in 48.59 while New Albany’s Micah Cample was third in 49.81.

South Ripley’s Megan Cole also competed in the event, which featured the top track & field athletes from Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Cole finished sixth in the girls 3200-meter run in 11:43.75, far behind winner Anastasia Tucker of Midland Dow (Mich.), who came in at 10:48.42.

Ohio swept both team titles, scoring 208.5 points to win the boys event and 199 to win the girls. Michigan was second in both with 165 points (boys) and 177 (girls) while Indiana was third with 99.5 (boys) and 97 (girls).

O’Banion will now run in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals June 13-16 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina.
