Southwestern picked up a win over three conference opponents in a girls golf match at Sunrise Golf Course on Wednesday.

The Rebels shot 194 as a team to easily best Switzerland County, which had a 231. Neither Shawe nor Jac-Cen-Del fielded a completed team.

Bella Marcum shot a 44 to lead the Rebels and claim low-medalist honors while Ellie Foley had a 45, Belle Crawford a 48 and Kristin Consley a 49. In non-scoring rounds, Shahala Brown had a 52 and Adalyn Leach had a 66.

“Not bad for our first attempt at the sectional course. I think overall we played OK, but I know all the girls left some shots out there,” Southwestern coach David Bright said. “Addy is still learning her swing, but she is so close. Once it clicks for her she is going to be our sixth girl that can break 50 on any given night. It makes my job hard to only pick five to play because they are all deserving. The chemistry on this team is amazing and I love it. These kids are a joy to coach.

“Considering we had the medalist, Bella, playing at the six tonight, and Belle and Kristin having struggled a bit, it shows me these kids have a chance to really compete for that sectional trophy. Once we get it all lined up we are going to be tough to beat.”

Hailey Hines led Switzerland County with a 50, Lily Williams and Josie Meyer each had 60 and Rori Ware had a 61.

Bailey Kilgore shot a 67 for Shawe while Jac-Cen-Del’s Tracy McKittrick had a 65 and Annalise Boor had a 71.

“Bailey had her struggles tonight but she also had her share of good shots to build on,” Shawe coach David Hertz said. “If she can put together enough of those good moments, she could be right in the mix with the ORVC tourney coming up Saturday.”

Southwestern faces South Dearborn and South Ripley at the Dearborn County Country Club on Thursday and all three local teams will compete in the Ohio River Valley Conference championships at Butler Falls Golf Course on Saturday.
