— Switzerland County’s Levi Curlin and Matty Anderson have been named the Ohio River Valley Conference soccer players of the week.

Curlin scored four goals and had two assists in two games to earn the honor for the boys while Anderson had four goals and an assist in two games for the girls.



— Madison Junior High’s boys soccer team beat Greensburg 4-0 at home on Monday.

Griffin Schwartz with three goals and Saba Chabukashvili with a goal and an assist. Ian Eiriksson also had an assist and Jack Miller was named the game’s MVP.

On Tuesday, the Bears’ “B” Team defeated Jennings County 6-3. Scoring for Madison was Giovanni Gomez Rojas, Giovanni Maya Zapata, Henry Schmidt, Bradley Martinez, Brady Lock, and Griffin Schwartz, with assists by Schwartz, Brady Lock, and Aaron Hanson. Martinez was the game’s MVP.

On Thursday, Madison defeated Jennings County 3-1.



— Southwestern’s jayvee boys tennis team went 1-2 against Jennings County at home on Tuesday.

Tanner Jacobs scored an 8-1 win in singles while Tyler Simpson lost 8-2 and Kenny Yount fell 8-2.

Jacobs and Simpson won 8-2 and Yount and Austin Caldwell won 8-1 in doubles.

Southwestern hosts South Dearborn on Tuesday, Sept. 10.



— Shawe Junior High’s volleyball teams split a pair of matches at Rising Sun on Tuesday.

The seventh grade scored a 25-5, 25-19 win while the eighth grade fell 25-23, 25-20.

Shawe hosts Henryville on Thursday.



— Madison Junior High’s girls soccer team rolled to an 11-0 win over Scottsburg at home on Tuesday.

Kyra Ayler had four goals and one assist for the Bears, Iyana Phelps had three goals, Juliana Davis had 2 goals, Bridget Cline had a goal and an assist, Dellah Gibson had a goal, and Annalise Roney, Rae Hearne, Lillie Sullivan, Nevaeh Jones and Marisol Maya each had an assist.



— Madison Junior High’s football teams each posted shutout wins over Jeffersonville River Valley on Tuesday.

The eighth grade won 36-0. James Schafer scored three touchdowns and had 10 tackles, Grant Grossen scored two touchdowns, Garrett Gatke threw for a TD, and Will Mahoney had 10 tackles.

The seventh grade won 24-0. Jake Dyer had a touchdown and three tackles, Gabe Rose and Peyton Stewart each had a touchdown and a two-point conversion, Darius Jay had a two-point conversion and five tackles, and Ayden Waggoner had two fumble recoveries and four tackles. The offensive line of Makyn Gibson, Kyle Pettit, Grayson Mahoney, Ayden Waggoner, Jason Cosby and Jon Mahoney also played well.

The 8th grade is now 2-1 on the season while the 7th grade is now 1-2. Both teams will play a combined game against Carroll County on Monday.



— Switzerland County’s jayvee volleyball team scored a 25-14, 25-13 win over Shawe on Wednesday at home.

Shawe, now 0-9 on the season, travels to Borden on Tuesday. Switzerland County hosts Jac-Cen-Del on Tuesday.



— Madison Junior High’s volleyball teams swept Rock Creek on Wednesday.

Lily Fox and Michelle Laguna-Rafael were the standouts for the seventh grade while Emmerson Bright, Kallie Eder and Abbi Sorensen stood out for the eighth grade.

On Thursday, Madison split with Southwestern. The seventh grade lost with Fox and Avery Johnson playing well for the Bears. The eighth grade won behind Breona Warren and Gracie Gasaway.



— Southwestern, Madison and Shawe each competed in the Southwestern Cross Country Middle School Invitational on Thursday.

The Madison boys were fourth overall and were led by Travis Hoffman, who was seventh. Adam Traylor was 11th, Liam Murphy was 17th, Jack Heckler was 23rd and Logan Ferris was 28th.

The Madison girls placed fifth and were led by Ava Spencer, who was second overall. Riley Kuppler was 16th, Lilly Canida was 20th, Emma Wynn was 26th and Gracie Nolan was 30th .

Hunter Mote led Shawe’s effort with a 13th-place finish in 13:13 in the girls race. Lauren Gage was 24th in 14:49, Cora Wieczovek was 27th in 15:20, Sarah Willhite was 28th in 15:48, and Maya Magary was 29th in 15:54.

Shawe competes at Switzerland County on Tuesday.



— The annual KDH Run the Falls 5K will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Clifty Falls State Park.

The event begins at 8 a.m. and costs $20 with a shirt and $15 without. Early bird deadline is Sept. 15 but on-site registration will begin at 6:45 a.m. race day.
