— Local athletes nearly swept every weekly award in the Ohio River Valley Conference.

Southwestern’s Ashleigh Ream, Trevor Smith and Belle Crawford each earned player of the week honors, as did Shawe’s Calli Alderman and Switzerland County’s Raylinn Kappes.

Ream earned the award in volleyball after serving at 87 percent, setting at 97 percent and picking up 32 assists in two matches last week. She shared the award with Milan’s Maddy Schmidt.

Smith won the award in boys cross country after posting a time of 17:27 in the Columbus North Invitational.

Crawford earned her award after shooting an 84 — which included a hole-in-one — and leading Southwestern to the ORVC girls golf title.

Alderman picked up the honor after winning the Crothersville Invitational with a time of 21:58.

Kappes earned the award in girls soccer with her hat trick and two assists against Rising Sun.

The boys soccer award was won by Jac-Cen-Del’s Koldo Templado.



— Madison Junior High’s boys soccer team defeated Hauser 6-1 on Monday.

Scoring goals for the Bears were: Griffin Schwartz (two goals), Saba Chabukashvili, Jackson Schwartz, Eli Dodge and Brady Lock. Jack Miller had two assists and Saba Chabukashvili and Kyle Roney each had one.

On Tuesday, Madison defeated South Ripley 6-0.

Schwartz had a hat trick for the Bears while Miller, Chabukashvili and Mason Davis each scored goals. Davis, Ian Eiriksson and Roney each had one assist. Defensive MVP was Davis, the offensive MVP was Schwartz, and the overall MVP was Eli Dodge.



— Shawe Junior High’s volleyball team swept Jac-Cen-Del at home on Monday.

The seventh grade won 25-9, 25-17 and the eighth grade won 25-16, 25-7.

Shawe travels to Southwestern on Wednesday.



— Shawe’s jayvee volleyball team lost at Borden on Tuesday, 25-14, 24-25, 15-8.

The Hilltoppers are now 0-10.



— The annual KDH Run the Falls 5K will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Clifty Falls State Park.

The event begins at 8 a.m. and costs $20 with a shirt and $15 without. Early bird deadline is Sept. 15 but on-site registration will begin at 6:45 a.m. race day.
