Shawe's girl's basketball team lost its ninth game of the season Friday night, 43-21 at home to Oldenburg Academy.

Shawe started the night slow, putting up just four points in the first quarter. Freshman center Katelyn Moore scored all four points in the quarter and Shawe trailed 14-4.

But the Hilltoppers mounted a strong second-half performance, outscoring Oldenburg 11-4. Junior Taylor Grote led Shawe with six points in the quarter.

Shawe could not overcome the lead that Oldenburg had maintained, scoring just six points through the rest of the game, two of which were scored off free throws.

"We played hard the first half and really had the momentum but we gave up in the second half," Shawe coach Camille Deuser said. "We have to find that heart and desire if we are going to be successful."

Shawe shot 8-for-37 from the floor and 5-for-11 from the free-throw line. The Hilltoppers had 30 turnovers in the game.

Grote led Shawe with eight points in the game, followed by freshman Shannon Fry with five. Anna Dickman, Kirsten Ricke and Ella Lamping led Oldenburg with eight points each.

Shawe has the week off before traveling to Lanesville Jan. 12.
