Shawe girls basketball held on for its sixth win of the season on Saturday, defeating Lanesville 40-33 at home.

The Hilltoppers led 11-6 after the first quarter and 19-11 at halftime before opening the second half on an 11-5 run to take a comfortable 30-16 lead into the final quarter.

Lanesville quickly found itself in the ballgame in the fourth quarter, erasing the double-digit deficit to climb within striking distance of the Hilltoppers. But Shawe answered right back to halt the run and hang on for the win.

"We tried everything we could to give this game away," Shawe head coach Camille Deuser said. "I am extremely proud of the fact that we were able to get this win. In the end we didn't give up and that means a lot. Last year we would have rolled over and died but we didn't and that shows the improvement that we've made."

Maddie Waller came up with a big day for Shawe, scoring 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Claire Higgins was also in double figures with 10. Hannah Storm led the rebounding with 11 of her team's 30.

"Maddie Waller played really well," Deuser noted. "She was our stabilizing force throughout the game."

Shawe (6-9) visits Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday.
