Jamison Bower has been hired as the new athletic director at Shawe Memorial High School, the school announced on Monday.

Bower replaces Steve Sims, who resigned the position earlier this spring to go into the classroom where he will teach sixth grade at Pope John Elementary starting this fall.

Bower comes to Shawe with an extensive athletic background. A graduate of Purdue University, Bower has coached soccer at Harrison High School in Lafayette as well as at West Lafayette High School. His wife Alyssa Hall Bower graduated from Shawe in 2007 and the couple and their family have been looking to move back to the Madison area for some time.

“I have always heard such great things from my wife, Alyssa, and my in-laws about Shawe Memorial and the Hilltopper community. I am extremely excited to become a part of it,” Bower said in a release. “Since pursuing my degree in education from Purdue University, I have aspired to become an athletic director and I am grateful for this amazing opportunity. I greatly look forward to starting this next chapter of my career here at Shawe, working with all the faculty and staff, and contributing to the continued success of the students in both academics and athletics.”

“It is difficult to find a person with all the skills that go into being a successful athletic director. We were looking for a person with an educational background, who has been around and has a love of sports, and someone who is well organized,” Shawe principal Curt Gardner said. “We believe we have found that person in Bower.”

Sims, who has served as athletic director for the past seven years, will remain in the capacity through most of the summer. Bower takes over the AD duties officially starting on Aug. 1.
