Madison’s losing streak reach six games with a 69-46 loss at home to Batesville on Saturday afternoon.
The Cubs struggled from the outset, trailing by 14 (19-5) seven minutes into the game. Madison rallied briefly to cut the lead to four on a Mason Welsh 3-pointer with 4:47 left in the second, but another big rally by Batesville pushed the margin back to 14 (37-23) by the half.
Madison once again cut the lead into single digits, this time 39-32 with 3:56 left in the third, but trailed by 18 (52-34) at the end of the third and by as many as 25 in the fourth quarter.
After shooting an abysmal 29.6 percent (8-for-27) in the first half, Madison recovered to hit 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) in the second half and finished the game a respectable 41.3 percent. But Batesville started hot and got hotter as the game wore on, finishing the game 25-for-46 (54.3 percent) overall.
Luke Miller scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Madison while Welsh had 13 points and Jackson Falconberry scored 10.
Colt Meyer had 19 points, Charlie Dice had 17, R.J. Powell scored 13 and Sam Voegele had 12 for Batesville.
Madison is now 10-8 after starting the season 10-2. The Cubs will try to break the skid at home on Thursday against Lawrenceburg. Madison will then travel to Class 3A No. 5 Greensburg on Friday in a game that has been moved up a day from Saturday due to Greensburg’s girls basketball team playing in the regional.
