Southwestern’s boys tennis team defeated Milan 3-2 at home on Thursday to remain unbeaten on the season.

The Rebels got victories by Jordan DeAtley at No. 2 singles and swept both doubles matches to secure the team win.

Results were: Singles — No. 1 Carter Wade (M) d. Landon DeAtley (SW)3-6, 6-4, 6-3; No. 2 Jordan DeAtley (SW) d. Nathan Hancock (M) 6-2, 6-0; No. 3 Caleb Prozoaslv (M) d. Mason Lichlyter (SW) 6-4, 7-5. Doubles — No. 1 Zach Cole, Foster Mefford (SW) d. Brayden Furr, Bo Wade (M) 6-1, 6-4; No. 2 Carter Harmon, Derrick Osborn (SW) d. Joe Hawk, Shane Phelps (M) 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Southwestern, now 4-0 on the season, hosts South Dearborn on Tuesday.



Cubs pick up 1st win of the season

Madison’s boys tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-2 victory at South Dearborn on Thursday.

Results were: Singles — No. 1 Haniah Kring (M) d. Brayden Tanner (SD) 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 Quinten Humes (M) d. Preston Sullivan (SD) 6-1, 6-2; No. 3 Ethan Fogle (SD) wins by forfeit. Doubles — No. 1 Dalton Owen, Reece Whicker (M) d. Grant McLane, Tyler Sloan (SD) 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 Lane Cutter, Luke Brown (SD) d. Emerson Cardinal, Matthew Burkhardt (M) 6-4, 6-4.

On Wednesday, Madison fell 5-0 to Jennings County.

Results were: Singles Wyatt St. John (JC) d. Haniah Kring (M) 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 Owen Law (JC) d. Quinten Humes (M) 6-4, 6-3; No. 3 Connor Cook (JC) won by default; Doubles — No. 1 Joe Kelley, Jacob Vogel (JC) d. Dalton Owen, Reece Whicker (M) 6-4, 6-1; No. 2 Greyson Jackson, Alex Leach (JC) d. Emerson Cardinal, Matthew Burkhardt (M) 6-1, 6-1.

Last Thursday, Madison lost to Columbus East 5-0.

Results were: Singles — No. 1 Pranav Kumar (CE) d. Haniah Kring (M) 6-2, 6-1; No. 2 Derek Heideman (CE) d. Quinten Humes (M) 6-4, 6-1; No. 3 Daniel Murphy (CE) won by forfeit. Doubles — No. 1 Matthew Degner, Emmit Romine (CE) d. Dalton Owen, Reece Whicker (M) 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 Wyatt Romine, Bridger Wagner (CE) d. Emerson Cardinal, Matthew Burkhardt (M) 6-1, 6-0.

Madison, now 1-6 on the season, hosts Scottsburg on Friday and hosts New Washington on Monday.
