Thurston, a left-hander who has moved into the closer’s role for Gary over the past week, pitched the final two and a third innings and struck out two and walked one while not allowing a run or a hit.

In 40 and two-thirds innings over 27 games this season between Gary and the Chicago Dogs, Thurston has allowed just 14 runs — 11 earned — on 32 hits with 36 strikeouts and 19 walks. He is sporting a 3-0 record with a 2.43 ERA and has three saves.
