Madison’s Ryan Thurston picked up the victory in the Gary SouthShore RailCats’ 11-7 win at St. Paul in an American Association contest on Sunday.

Thurston, who has been on a hot streak of late, entered the game in the eighth with Gary up 7-5 but promptly gave two runs to tie the game. But the RailCats picked up their left-hander with four runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead and Thurston slammed the door in the bottom half to secure the win.

Overall, Thurston struck out two and walked one in his two-inning stint. He allowed two earned runs on three hits.

The victory improved Thurston’s season record to 4-0 while his ERA jumped a bit to 2.62. In 44 innings pitched over 29 games, Thurston has allowed 19 runs — just 13 earned — on 35 hits with 41 strikeouts and 21 walks.

Gary returns home on Monday to begin a three-game series with Texas.
