Madison’s Ryan Thurston pitched two innings of scoreless baseball to shut down Fargo-Moorehead in the eighth and ninth innings, but Gary SouthShore couldn’t dig out of an 8-6 hole in American Association baseball at the Steel Yard in Gary.

Thurston came on in the eighth inning and set the division-leading RedHawks down in order. He gave up a leadoff double to right fielder Tim Colwell in the ninth inning, but battled out of the am with a fly out, strikeout, a walk and fly out to strand Colwell at third.

The second year pro out of Western Kentucky University ended up facing eight batters in the two innings with a hit, a walk and two strikeouts. Thurston is now 3-0 with a 2.32 ERA and three saves in 42.2 innings pitched, all out of the bullpen and most recently as Gary’s closer.
