Former Madison Cub Ryan Thurston tossed a scoreless inning in the Gary SouthShore RailCats’ 8-7 loss at the Chicago Dogs in an American Association game on Wednesday.

Thurston, who opened the season with the Dogs, entered the game in the sixth inning with Gary leading 7-5. The lefty struck out one and walked a batter to keep Chicago at bay. The Dogs then scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

In 28 innings between Chicago and Gary so far this season, Thurston has allowed just eight runs on 20 hits with 19 strikeouts and 12 walks. He sports a 2.88 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Gary returns home this weekend and hosts Cleburne for three games.
