The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will stock Madison's Johnson Lake with 300 rainbow trout within the next two days.

The trout stocking project will be conducted by the DNR's Division of Fish and Wildlife and although an exact date for the stocking has not been set it will take place this week.

Harvest limit for rainbow trout at Johnson Lake is five fish and the minimum length limit is 7 inches. However, all the fish being stocked are suppose to be over 7 inches, said Dan Carnahan, the DNR's District 6 Fisheries biologist.

Trout anglers age 18 and over will need an Indiana fishing license and a state trout/salmon stamp to legally fish for trout.

Carnahan said the best tackle for rainbow trout is ultra light rod and reels rigged with 4 to 6 pound line. Good baits for trout include Berkley trout bait, corn and little spinners.

The Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife is funded by fishing and hunting license revenue, as well as, through the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration programs. These programs collect excise taxes on shooting, archery, and fishing equipment and motor boat fuel.
