Madison’s Bob Vonch recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes in the American Cornhole League National Championships in Philadelphia over the weekend.

Vonch competed in both the Pro Singles and the $25,000 Pro Invitational, the latter of which was broadcast live on ESPN. Vonch and his playing partner Danny Seals of Maryville finished fifth in the Pro Invitational and earned $2,000. Vonch also placed fifth in his bracket in the Pro Singles, taking home $100.

Vonch’s next event will be the World Championships in South Carolina in August.



Mefford ties for 3rd

Former Southwestern golf standout Hunter Mefford tied for third in the Indiana Golf Association Match Play Championship at the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course in West Lafayette on Tuesday.

Mefford, a 2019 graduate of Southwestern High School and a current sophomore at Purdue Fort Wayne, shot a three-under 69 to finish in a four-way tie in the event, four strokes back. Mefford recorded five birdies and two bogeys in his round.

Brett Widner of Avon won the tournament with a seven-under 65.



Coleman places 9th

Bedford’s Gideon Coleman placed ninth in the Bluegrass Golf Tour event at the Nevel Meade Golf Course in Prospect, Kentucky on Tuesday.

Coleman, a student at Providence Academy, shot a 14-over 86 to finish nine strokes back of winner Hayden Groves of Fisherville.
