    The fairgrounds livestock barns were a flurry of action Friday afternoon for the annual Jefferson County 4-H Fair Livestock Auction as 4-Hers and volunteers shuffled animals in and out of the show barn for buyers to see.

    Hoosier farmers had anticipated all week that the Trump administration would impose $34 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods imported into the U.S. Friday morning, the administration did just that. In return, China retaliated by putting tariffs on an equal amount of U.S. goods. Among those goods are corn and soybeans, the most common grain crops in Indiana.

    It was a parade to entertain all spectators yesterday as the annual Madison Regatta festival event took over Main Street for more than an hour.

    During Saturday’s pageants, Madison Regatta President Matt True thanked Festival Chairman Kim Washer and her father, John Knoebel, for their years of service to Regatta. The pageants Saturday were named the Niki Washer Memorial pageants in memory of Washer’s daughter, Niki.
